Inspiring Stories

How Rich Are We?

One day a father and his rich family took his son on a trip to the country with the firm purpose to show him

how poor people can be. They spent a day and a night on the farm of a very poor family. When they got

back from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "Very good Dad!" "Did you see how poor

people can be?" the father asked. "Yeah!" exclaimed the son. "And what did you learn?" asked the father.

The son answered, "I saw that we have a dog at home, and they have four. We have a pool that reaches to

the middle of the garden; they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lamps in the garden; they

have the stars. Our patio reaches to the front yard; they have a whole horizon." When the little boy was

finished, his father was speechless. His son added, "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how 'poor' we are!"

Isn't it true that it all depends on the way you look at things? If you have love, friends, family, health, good

humor and a positive attitude towards life -- you've got everything! You can't buy any of these things. You

may have all the material possessions you can imagine, provisions for the future, etc.; but if you are poor of

spirit, you have nothing!

For Discussion or Writing

1.“If you are poor of spirit, you have nothing.” Explain the meaning within this story.

2. “It all depends on how you look at things….” What does that mean in this story? Give an example from

your life of this.

3. Who are the “poor people” in this story? Why?

Culture Tour to BALI!

Hello Jello ! Today i will tell you the stories about my school's Culture Tour a.k.a Tur Budaya #32015!

So , we went to Bali on 3rd of April . It was Thursday night , before we go there , the school gave us our exam result which is very bad  . SO! The meeting place is a Bandung Train Station located in Kebon Kawung Street , we gather there at 5pm and the train took off at 8pm . Its like forever i didnt get into train , it was so exciting!  I Didn't know that train's chair can be rotated 180degree!!!

The Next Day 4th of April IS MY BIRTHDAY! My Friend surprised me by writing on my face with a red marker (and i cant get rid of it until the morning) , it was my 16th birthday by the way. Anyway , we arrived at Surabaya Station , Gubeng Station 8.30 am in the morning . We get our belongings and proceed to the Bus !

What do we do in the bus? Mainly Sleeping , and sleeping , a little chit chat and sleep again ~ Its not something even worth to tell *duh .....OKAY! The Important part is we arrived in Ketapang Port at 7pm that day , we rode the ship for 2 hours and it was amazing! There are so many couples in the ship , argh the ballad of a forever alone *crying in the dark* .... Proceed to the next activity , we took another 4 hours to get to our hotel , a little intermezzo my ipad screen is broken at the ship , not broken "broken" but it got red , and after i searched on the internet the cool name is discoloration ! Argh i panicked because its one of my important things in life *cry* , but after we arrived at the hotel (it was 2am Bali Time) it already fixed by itself *i still dont get it until now* . My Roommate in Nirmala Hotel is Dinda , Dela and Lala , my besties *smooch*

5th of April!
Our first destination is Benoa , a beach where all water sport in bali gather in one place . I didnt get to play anything except go to the sea turtle island ( i dont recommend this one) because i have my period there and so it was like ewh if i go to water . Ah , we met "2" High School here , i met my bestfriend from elementary ~ We stayed in benoa for 4 hours , ate our lunch there and then proceed to Garuda Wisnu Kencana :3 A Statue of Garuda and wisnu , it hasnt finished yet so i cant wait to see the finished one ?! We Took Class of 32015 photos and took a lot of photo there , the last destination on that day is Jimbaran Beach , where you can eat seafood in beachside ... On Jimbaran beach , our next door restaurant is having a prom night (Why would they have a prom night in a place thats so crowded?) and us? We're doing BEACH PARTY ! ITS THE BEST NIGHT EVER!!!!!!

6th Of April
Our first activity is go to a very traditional village called Panglipuran , there is this one drink called loh loh cem cem and it tastes so good, should try the next time i go there.....After that we got our lunch in kintamani , the food was so delicious (and not limited) , and the last tourist attraction we go to is Sukowati market , i only  bought milk pie there ( i bought 80 btw) because im not interested in the clothes whatsoever ...
LAST BUT NOT LEAST MALAM KEAKRABAN ! The moment we share with Class Of 32015 , there are award and nomination and some show from our extracurricular like KV , TS'T , MK , it ends at 12.00 ( i felt like cinderella)

7th Of April OUR LAST DAY
Our last day begin with sleepyhead , because of the Malam Keakraban :( anyway , we go to Pandawa Beach thats so awesome ! Its a human made beach , but its so cool! The sand is white , the atmosphere is good , and there's kayaking there too! Because theres so little time , we proceed to Khrisna souvenirs center , i bought peanuts , bracelet , aroma therapy and another random things , actually we can go to Kuta the most known place in Bali , but because we have to catch our flight we didnt get the chance to go there (well , some people did) . We took the 6.30pm flight from Ngurah Rai Airport to Husein Sastranegara airport , the plane was so noisy with our presence there AHAHAHAHAHAHA we arrived in Bandung 8.30 Bandung Time , and that was the most amazing trip EVER!

PENINTENTES

Combine snow, cold temperatures, bright sunshine, wind and very dry air often snow does not melt, but directly sublimates (converts from solid directly into gas form). If the conditions are correct bowl shaped structures will form where the snow sublimates in the cavity, but not as quickly on the raised portions between the bowls. The sublimation is greatest at the bottom of any cavity and least on the peaks and sides. This process will at first scallop the surface of the snow, then as the bowls get deeper peaks and ridges form, the cavities growing downwards through the snow pack. The resulting structures appear as tall pillars of snow with deep cavities between them.

These odd structures really catch the attention, so much so I became curious and researched the mechanism behind their formation and whatever else I could find out about these strange formations. Interestingly they are first described in the scientific literature by Charles Darwin who encountered penitentes near the Piuquenes Pass in the Andes Mountains. Called 'snow cups' or 'penitentes' due to their resemblance to pilgrims or hooded religious figures the results can be startling in their strangeness. The pillars can be taller than a person, but the tallest I have seen on Mauna Kea this winter are about one meter, mostly just half a meter, I suspect they could be taller if given a chance, but that is the depth of the remaining snow fields. The conditions for forming penitentes have been present at the summit for the last couple months, and the process has been carving at the deeper remaining snow fields on the tops of the ridges and north sides of the pu'us at the summit. Currently entire snow fields of acres in size are carved deeply with these penitentes in the summit area. This has resulted in entire gardens of penitentes along the roads at the summit and another reason why the summit continues to be such a beautiful and fascinating place.

GEMA:You quiet yourself.

FARHAN:I'm sorry. Please go back to sleep.

GEMA:Don't you start telling me what to do. You done plenty already.

FARHAN: It was an accident.

ELLA:Will you shut up?!

FERDI: Who's yelling?

FADHILA: Hey, man. Go to sleep. There's other people around here you know.

GEMA:Yeah, I know. So shut your trap.

FARHAN: Please, all of you, go back to sleep.

FEBBRY: Who's the fancy talker? I bet he wears a tie?

GEMA: I don't see none on him. He lucky. I would a used it to strangle him.

FARHAN: I'm sorry. I just need a place to sleep.

GEMA: There ain't none here.

FEBBRY: You got two blankets. Why don't you give him one?

GEMA: What with you? You take a liking to him?

FEBBRY: Well, he ain't got no tie.

GEMA: And I ain't got no blanket. So go somewhere else.

FARHAN: I'll go. It's okay.

DINDA: You can always sleep in this blanket, I got two blankets anyway.

INSANI: What're you talking about? You always feel cold. You're the one who needs two

DINDA: Careful what you say, I might cry.

FADHILA: Oh, man. Last time she cry, she wouldn't shut up all night.

FARHAN: Everyone, please. I didn't mean to cause so much trouble.

GEMA: You too late. You already did. Now, you have to pay.

DINDA: (Almost a whisper) Be gentle with him.

GEMA: Shut up, woman!

ELLA: Why don't you?! I'm tryin' to sleep here.

(Silence. GEMA crosses to ELLA's ad he point at him) What do you want?!

GEMA: No one mouths off at me.

ELLA: Too late, I already did. (In a quick motion, GEMA tips the blanket, kicks ELLA,

and pins him to the floor with his foot. FARHAN tries to escape during this but is caught

by FERDI and FADHILA. FERDI and FADHILA push FARHAN roughly into a sitting

position on a blanket. Once again everything is still again)

GEMA: What you say to me, girl?

ELLA: Nothing, nothing at all.

GEMA: And what you say to me later?

FERDI: (Holding FARHAN) We got this one.

FADHILA: What you gonna do with him?

GEMA: (Crosses to FARHAN, grabs his face roughly and makes FARHAN look up at

FARHAN: (Softly) Yes.

GEMA: (Smiles, still holding him, looking into his eyes) It's that look I love. I loves it more

than women. And you's got it. (He roughly releases FARHAN. Others leave him alone and

go to the corners to converse. GEMA sits on his blanket. FEBBRY goes to FARHAN)

FEBBRY: My name's Febbry. (Holds out hand. They shake)

FEBBRY: I think Gema is very nice person.

FARHAN: I think you're wrong.

FEBBRY: He's not as bad as he looks. He's really a pussy cat deep down.

FARHAN: Yeah, with long claws, long teeth, and rabies.

FEBBRY: Oh, you’re funny. We can be friends.

FARHAN: Where am I?

INSANI(Joins them): You're down, man. You're at the end of existence.

FEBBRY: He exaggerates.

INSANI: You eg-za-der-dates if you's saying otherwise.

FARHAN: I was told to come here. At least, I think so. (Takes out paper) Here's the

address. (FEBBRY is silent when he sees paper)

INSANI: That's bad man. Real bad.

FARHAN: Then this isn't it?

INSANI: This place is far from it, man. This is Disneyland to that.

FARHAN: Maybe I shouldn't go.

FEBBRY: You have to.

FARHAN: Who will take me there, then?

FEBBRY: Gema can take you.

FARHAN: Gema? Why him?

INSANI: That's a bad place. Only Gema goes there. (To FEBBRY) They say he's from that

FEBBRY: If that's possible.

FARHAN: Can it be that bad?

INSANI: Where you comin' from, man? Don't you know nothin' about this neighborhood?

FARHAN: This is all new to me.

INSANI: It better be unnew and fast or you's gonna lose yourself here.

FEBBRY: That place where you're going...

FEBBRY: It's dangerous... cops don't even go there.

INSANI: And when Gema goes, he don't bring no one back.

FEBBRY: You didn't have to tell him that.

INSANI: It's the truth, isn’t it?

FARHAN: I'm free, aren't I? I just won't go. I'll stay here. That's easy enough.

INSAN: You forget. Gema won't let you. You're stuck.

FARHAN: Damned if I do, damned if I don't.

INSANI: Hey, he catches on quick.

FEBBRY: Not quick enough I'm afraid.

FARHAN: Won't Gema help me through?

INSANI: Gema? Help? Those words don't go, man. Gema would sooner see you hurt than

FARHAN: I may as well go alone then.

FEBBRY: Gema would go anyway. It’s his job. You may as well go with him.

INSANI: You stick with Gema in that neighborhood, man. You'll be glad you did. With them

the way they are there, he'll be your best friend.

FARHAN: I don't understand any of this. What is this stupid address? I don't want to go, but

what else can I do? There's nothing behind me. There's nothing here. The only thing I have is

INSANI: Keep what you got. It could be worse… but not much. (Moment of silence. GEMA

gets up and puts on a jacket. GEMA crosses over to them. INSANI sees him and crosses

away. FARHAN and FEBBRY notice GEMA when INSANI leaves)

GEMA (To FARHAN): You coming?

FEBBRY: You'd better go.

GEMA: Show me your paper.

GEMA: (Louder and sharper) The address!

(FARHAN quickly gives it to him)

GEMA: (Laughs darkly) Bad place. What's a fancy talking little wuss like you doing in a

FARHAN: Someone gave me the address. I don't remember them saying anything else.

GEMA: Probably better that way.

FARHAN: What is this place anyway?

GEMA: That depends on you.

FARHAN: What is that supposed to mean?

GEMA: (Laughs) You see. What that they say. "Patience is a..." What's that word?

GEMA: Yeah. You got to get yourself some of that.

FARHAN: I thought I had plenty before this.

GEMA: You find you got a lot less after. It’s time

FEBBRY: (Goes up to FARHAN) Keep safe.

GEMA: I ain't got the time!

FEBBRY: You'd better go.

FARHAN: Good-bye. Perhaps I'll be back this way again. (FEBBRY smiles sadly)

GEMA: You comin'? (FARHAN follows GEMMA,  FEBBRY watches sadly. INSANI

glances reluctantly, but turns away. Lights fade to black)

(Finally GEMA leads Farhan to his home and Gema disappear right away. Farhan watches

himself sleep on the bed, he stares quizically then sleep upon his body)

FARHAN: (wakes up with sweat and breathes pantingly) Oh! Thank God it was just a dream.
